Science Approach Celebrates Spring in the Southeast Print E-mail

Dogwoods, azaleas, dianthus, and the last vestiges of redbuds …  spring in South Carolina is hard to beat. Science Approach was there for the annual meeting of the Association of Southeastern Biologists -- and what a convivial group they are!

The meeting took place in Spartanburg, where some events were held on the historic and lovely campus of Wofford College. This particular meeting is very student-friendly: Of the 750 attendees, probably 600 are students, many of whom did their very first professional presentation.

Students and professors alike kept the Science Approach booth busy as they watched an animation of the ozone hole in “Where Did the Ozone Go?” and took on the roles of environmental health detectives while exploring “Who Killed Crystal Creek?”

Both activities are part of the Powers of Inquiry project, funded by the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). All nine POI lessons are standards-based and targeted toward middle and high school students.
