Why Did the Sheep Cross the Road? was funded by the Arizona Advisory Council on Environmental Education, and developed in collaboration with Ruth Ann Ditto at Imes Magnet School in Glendale, Arizona. The lesson is a discovery-based activity in which students work in teams to develop strategies that will reduce Desert Bighorn Sheep mortality along a stretch of U.S. Highway 95 in northwestern Arizona. Playing the roles of Wildlife Biologist and Arizona Department of Highways Engineer, students explore the natural history of bighorn sheep in the Black Mountains of Arizona and use GIS technology to conduct their research.
